Brickwall Tavern and Dining Room is a great place to go for a drink and a laugh. You could spend most of your reading the huge assortment of signs that line the walls that say things like “I know it’s just rolling rock but I like it,” and “Just gave the American flag a two star review on yelp. Too many stars.” Their beer list is so long there is a menu and a booklet, with 24 beers on tap that are updated rather frequently.

  • THE FOOD:

  • Appetizers:

  • Hot Chips and Dip- A mountain of freshly made chips served with both vegan French onion dip and chive dip.

  • Thoughts: The table was torn over which is better. Although they were both delicious, personally, I preferred the French onion. The chive dip was thin like a dressing.

  • Beer Bacon Cheddar Soup- A soup as deliciously simple as its name.

  • Thoughts: Simply delicious. This soup is the perfect thick, creamy soup to warm you up during hurricane force winds. If you are feeling adventurous it is also a great dip for fries.

  • Entrée 1: Carolina Pulled Pork- Shredded pulled pork topped with bourbon chipotle BBQ sauce on a Kaiser roll, served with a side of French fries. (All sandwiches are served with fries)

  • Thoughts: This is a personal favorite of mine. I’ve had Carolina BBQ and it is usually cooked smothered in sauce. This dish takes the taste of Carolina BBQ but is structured more like Texas BBQ, with the sauce added on top of the meat. There is so much pulled pork that is does not all fit on the roll. A fork will be needed to fully complete your sandwich.

  • Entrée 2: Filet Mignon Sandwich- A 5 oz. filet cooked to your liking topped with frizzled onions and melted bleu cheese crumbles on a Martin’s potato roll.

  • Thoughts: Another delicious option. Sometimes you just crave steak and this is a very creative way to curb that hunger. The melted bleu cheese brings an awesome texture to this sandwich.

  • Entrée 3: Black Bean Burger- A black bean burger topped with smoked cheddar, avocado, corn relish, and frizzled onions. Served with chipotle mayonnaise. This is usually a vegan dish but last night was also topped with bacon.

  • Thoughts: This is one of the many vegan options on the menu. I have to admit I didn’t partake in this dish because I am not a fan of beans of any kind (it’s a texture thing), but if I decided to stop eating meat I would definitely be on board just because of how good this burger looks.

Brickwall is overall a good time. The food is great and it is the perfect place to go if you are looking to try new beers. The menu provides both vegan and meat options, I doubt anyone would have a problem finding something they like. It is the perfect mix of dark, hip hang out and sports bar. After a night there you will probably have a story that starts with a line from one of my favorite signs, “Four score and seven beers ago…”
